FC Dallas bounces back crushing Chicago

Nothing like a bit of home cooking after the midweek disaster in Seattle. FC Dallas bounced back at home dominating the lowly Chicago Fire 3-1 Saturday night.  Truthfully the match was not even as close as the 3-1 scoreline suggests.  This was an FC Dallas night and most of it was one way traffic.

For much of the game it was the Mauro Diaz show.  He ran the midfield to perfection leading FCD attack after attack.  Slick passes. Quick turns. Shots flying.  Add in a dynamic Fabian Castillo and Chicago barely had a chance.

FCD struck first in the 23rd minute when Max Urruti rose above Michael Harrington and scored on a header for his fifth goal of the season. Fabian Castillo, who had two assists, evaded two Chicago players on the left flank, poking the ball between them before delivering a perfect cross that Urruti headed in from the edge of the 6-yard box.

Dallas made it 2-0 in the 41st minute when Diaz beat Fire goalkeeper Matt Lampson at the far post with a scintillating right-footed shot from about 30 yards out. Kellyn Acosta fed Diaz with a rather nonchalant pass from the middle of the field. Diaz touched right and fired off the post for his third goal of the season.

With the win FC Dallas takes back the Brimstone Cup by beating the Fire for the first time since 2011.  With the two teams in different conferences they only meet once a year so the Brimstone Cup has lost a bit of its luster.  Either way, three points is three points.

"Today the boys performed very well," Dallas coach Oscar Pareja said. "That's obviously a great achievement for them. We keep adding points and being strong at home."

Only a late goal from the Fire lessened the FCD performance, but order was restored only a minute later as substitute Mauro Rosales rolled home a nice cut back from Fabian Castillo.  Chicago remained winless in nine road games only claiming two draws so far. After finishing 2-1-0 in its stretch of three games in nine days, FC Dallas will play at Houston on Wednesday in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. FCD returns to league play Saturday at Colorado.
