Carroll's girls potential becomes history
Published 2/9/2007 8:17:27 AM by Tobias Lopez from Dallas, Texas
Years ago there were shirts around Colleyville that boldly proclaimed "If you can't run with the big dogs, stay in Class 4A." The shirts were a jab at Carroll, which remained in Class 4A after the Panthers moved up to 5A.
It's been a long time coming, but Carroll gained a measure of retribution on Tuesday night. The Lady Dragons ended Colleyville Heritage's 109 game district winning streak with a 3-0 victory.
Entering a rebuilding year after the departure of Michelle Makasini, a young Colleyville Heritage side looked vulnerable heading into this district season. Before the game Carroll coach Matt Colvin kept it simple for the Lady Dragons, who were led by Lauri Byrne's hat trick. "We're not here to make history," Colvin told his players before the game. "We're here to meet our potential as individuals and the result will take care of itself."
