Conference USA Tourney - Day 1
Published 11/2/2006 7:18:25 AM by SoccerXpert Staff from Dallas, Texas U.S.A.
The opening day of the Conference USA Mens Soccer Tournament produced only 1 mild upset. Otherwise the seeding held strong leading into the Friday semifinal matches. SMU, Knetucky, Tulsa and UAB advanced on Wednesday. #1 SMU 6 #8 Florida International 0 The Mustangs served notice that they would be the team to beat with a resounding 6-0 win.
#2 Kentucky 3 #7 Memphis 1 The Wildcats took care of business on their way to a rematch with SMU. A though game with the host school Tulsa looms first though.
#3 Tulsa 5 #6 Central Florida 0 A disappointing effort from UCF against the host Tulsa. UCF had been playing better of late but really laid an egg here. Could Tulsa be poised for a run for the title on their home field? #5 UAB 3
#4 South Carolina 2 The only upset in the first round and it was a mild one for sure. UAB has been playing very well with a win last week over SMU and South Carolina has been quite average of late. This loss really hurts South Carolina's NCAA Tournament hopes.
FRIDAY, NOV. 3 - semifinals No. 1 SMU vs. No. 5 UAB 5:00 p.m. No. 2 Kentucky vs. No. 3 Tulsa 7:30 p.m.
