Dallas Texans Red - Solar
The Dallas Classic U19 boys wrapped up play with several huge midweek games this week. Tops on the list was the Dallas Texans - Solar showdown. Solar has ruled the 89 age group since U11 and Texans were itching to take the last title with a win on Tuesday night at Richland College. The energy was electric and a large crowd turned out to see the rivals play. Play opened with Solar showing their typical pretty possession style against the Texans speed forwards and more direct approach. Solar controlled the widths of the field while Texans size in the middle caused problems for Solar's smaller skill players. First half play was fairly even with both teams creating a couple of chances. Finally in the 39th minute Tuan Doan got behind the Texans defense and scored a nice goal to give Solar a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Texans knew they had to win the match as a tie would still leave Solar in first place due to an early season draw between Texans and DFW Tejanos. Texans regrouped at half and came out stronger and more determined. It was a hard tackling second half as the emotions were high. Kevin Smith yelling for his boys to try to match the ball winning of the Texan central players and David Doyle whining for every call from the referee. The entertainment level was high.

As the half dragged on the Solar boys seemed to tire as Kevin Smith didnt use his bench choosing to stick with his top 11 most of the way. Texans who subbed more freely surged forward looking for the tying goal. Finally in the 75th minute Texans were able to get the match even as a shot off the post rebounded into the middle of the box where it was knocked home. The goal further pushed the Texans forward and only minutes later a long cross fell to the feet of Jonathan McMullen only 6 yards from goal and 1v1 with the keeper. Unfortunately McMullen didnt take his chance well and sent the ball well over the crossbar. Texans werent discouraged though and continued to push generating several good set piece opportunites in the last 10 minutes. The Solar defense and goalkeeper Brock Duckworth weathered the storm and were able to hold onto a 1-1 draw sending Solar to the Dallas Cup Super Group and giving them the Fall Classic League championship.

DFW Tejanos - Comets
On Monday night Tejanos and Comets faced off in a match to decide a Dallas Cup berth. Comets only needed a draw and DFW Tejanos came out early as the aggressors. A pair of early DFW Tejanos chances from Reed Boecking and Greg Lopez went unrewarded as the score remained tied. In the 20th minute a Tejanos player recieved 2 yellow cards and was sent off leaving Tejanos to play 70 minutes with only 10 men. It only slightly slowed Tejanos down as they continued to put pressure on Comets the rest of the half. 0-0 halftime.

The second half began more evenly with Comets getting more of the possession. In the 60th minute Comets were able to break thru and get the lead on a nice strike. The Tejanos were clearly discouraged knowing now they needed 2 goals in the final 30 minutes playing with only 10 men. However, they continued to attack and Miles McDougal scored a volley off a corner kick to even the game with 20 minutes to go. The Comets didnt sit back and they attacked for the win, but it was the Tejanos who would steal the win as Greg Lopez flicked a ball over the onrushing Comets keeper in the 88th minute to secure the 2-1 Tejanos win and a spot in Dallas Cup.

Solar Red - Longhorns
Also on Monday night Solar Red met Longhorns. A Solar Red win could potentially move them 3 spots up in the standings so the stakes were high. However it was the Longhorns that stole the thunder and jumped to a 1-0 halftime lead. Solar Red regrouped at half and came out flying in the second half. They were able to even the score midway thru the half and then produce the winner 5 minutes from time to claim a 2-1 verdict. The win elevated Solar Red to 6th place while Longhorns remained 9th.
