Birdville girls post another shutout The North Richland Hills Birdville Lady Hawks continued their streak through the playoffs, shutting out the Wichita Falls Lady Coyotes 1-0 Tuesday night in a Class 4A Region I semifinal at the Collins Athletics Complex.
Courtney Crowson had the lone goal for Birdville (21-2-4), a corner kick that curved past the goalie and through the posts.
Birdville goalie Jane Picarelli and her team have yet to allow a goal in the postseason; Keller Fossil Ridge and Fort Worth Western Hills were shut out in earlier rounds.
"Between her and our defenders, I would hope we can continue our great play," coach Eddie Brown said. The District 5-4A champs advance to play Wichita Falls Rider, which beat Abilene Wylie 2-1 in overtime, in the 4A Region I finals.

Girls
Amarillo 3, Mansfield Summit 0: Amanda Fasano scored the first of her two goals seven minutes in, and Amarillo was in control the rest of the way to clinch a regional quarterfinal victory at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium.
Summit failed to capitalize on two corner kicks and two free kicks in the first half, and was done in by an inability to adjust to near 20-mph winds in the second half.
Jordan Craig put Amarillo ahead 2-0 six minutes into the second half, and Fasano added her second goal 4 minutes later to wrap up the team's first quarterfinal appearance in school history.
Summit goalkeeper Lauren Gallant stopped 6 of 9 shots she faced but couldn't overcome Summit's inability to score. The Lady Jaguars ended the season 22-3, the best record in school history.

Boys
WF Rider 3, FW Arlington Heights 1: Mistakes in the second half derailed the Yellow Jackets' state tournament hopes.
Guy Bigot punched in a high volley, and Justin Anderson pushed in a rebound as the Raiders scored just 2 minutes apart in the second half to overcome a 1-0 deficit at the Collins Athletic Complex in the Class 4A Region I semifinals.
Rider (20-0-0) remained unbeaten since falling in the state championship game last season.
Heights (20-3-1) had to settle for matching its deepest postseason advancement, two games away from the state final four, unable to make Jaime Zarate's goal stand up for the final 35:52.
"We outplayed them on the field, but we had a concentration lapse," Heights coach Jack Warren said. "And when you're playing a team that's 19-0, you don't have to give them much of a window."
Rider scored with 31 and 29 minutes left, first as Bigot jumped high for the ball in the top left corner and then as Anderson put in a rebound in the penalty box.
In both cases, Heights keeper Ryan Brooks had a chance to secure the ball but found himself unable to control it. He had started the second half after Josh Parr played the first without having to make a save.
Rider added a third goal with 2:29 left on a breakaway by James Fox, the beneficiary of a ball won in the back as Heights applied full pressure to the goal.
It was a disappointing ending for the Yellow Jackets, who had visions of a longer season behind Division I signees Hayden Sordini (Kentucky) and Mackenzie Ward (St. John's).
El Paso Bowie 1, Fort Worth North Side 0 (SO): The Steers were outscored 3-1 in the shootout, and fell to El Paso Bowie in a Class 4A Region I semifinal match at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland.
It was the third straight playoff game that went to a shootout for North Side (16-2-4), which failed to capitalize on mistakes by Bowie (16-6).Luis Villanueva scored the lone goal in the shootout for North Side.
