Mustang Women's Soccer Falls to Texas A&M, 4-0, in NCAA Second Round Play

SMU Closes Out its Season with a 17-5-1 Record College Station, Texas - The SMU women's soccer team fell to 13th-ranked Texas A&M Sunday afternoon by the score of 4-0 in the second round of the 2006 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. SMU closes out its season with a 17-5-1 record while the 8th ranked Aggies (16-5-1) advance to the round of 16. The first half saw A&M dominate but not be able to break through. The match went scoreless to halftime but the Aggies would break out bigtime in the second half. Texas A&M scored three goals in a span of four minutes and quickly put the game out of reach for the Mustangs. Melissa Garey notched the go-ahead goal at the 60:48 mark. The excitement of the goal spurred the Aggies forward and Ashley Pistorius scored 2 goals in a span of 37 seconds to put the game away. The first goal came off a throw in that Pistorius flicked home and her second was a penalty kick. Texas A&M added a fourth goal in the 81st minute to close out the game's scoring. SMU put only one shot on goal compared to the Aggies' 14 shots on goal. With the victory the Aggies (16-5-1) advance to the Third Round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament, for the eighth time, to face the Virginia Cavaliers (11-7-1).
