Plano Boys Coach Cautiously Optimistic

At 11-0, Plano is off to its best start in years. But coach Bob Weir knows that his team's toughest competition is ahead, and he's not exactly ready to make any post-season plans.

"We haven't been tested like our district is going to test us," said Weir, who is two wins shy of 400 in his 30 year career. "That's my main concern at this point."

Plano won two tournaments (Mesquite and Corsicana) and prevailed 3-2 in a shootout against Lake Highlands in the Jesuit Tournament to open the season. Weather conditions wiped out the rest of the Jesuit Tournament. Plano opens District 9-5A play against Allen 6-0 Friday.

Weir said his team is filled with good young talent and has the luxury of going far into his bench. Three returning starters -- forward Tex McCullough, midfielder Corben Bone and Bryan Hicks -- anchor the team. All are teammates with Solar '89 and will be signing Division 1 scholarships next week with McCullough to Michigan, Bone to Wake Forest and Hicks to Tulsa.
