SMU Women Roll into 2nd Round of NCAAs

The SMU womens team struck early and never looked back in their first round NCAA Tournament win over McNeese State Friday afternoon. Senior forward Olivia O'Rear notched her 13th goal of the year scoring off an assist from freshman Kim Peabody. The goal would stand up into halftime. Despite the lead SMU never sat back and attacked the whole match outshooting McNeese 18-5. Finally in the 82nd minute the Mustangs got the 2nd goal as Susanne Collins got on the end of a Marissa Schieda cross to put the match out of reach. Sophomore Ashley Gunter earned her 11th shutout of the season. With the win SMU improves to 17-4-1 on the year and will face the winner of the Grambling State - Texas A&M game. The 2nd round match will be Sunday 1pm in College Station, Texas.
