Dallas (SMU) - SMU head women's soccer coach Brent Erwin announced the signing of five student-athletes Wednesday to a national letter-of-intent for the 2007 fall season. The newest members of the Mustang family are Meagan Boyle (Louisville, Ky.), Laura Landry (Dove Canyon, Calif.), Kristin Medeiros (Highland Ranch, Colo.), Rachel Michener (Pottstown, Pa.), and Lauren Shepherd (Dallas, Texas).

"I am very excited to have these young women join our University and soccer program," said Erwin. "This is a great group of players and they will make great contributions to SMU for the next four years. I have been very impressed with the ability and commitment of the players we have in the program right now, and these new players will only make us stronger. I was able to go and meet with all the players last week and am very motivated by their enthusiasm for SMU and winning championships with our team. Each of these players brings great individual talent and desire to win at SMU and I look forward to helping them fill their competitive potential in the coming years."

Boyle is a 5-10 goalkeeper who attends Sacred Heart High School in Louisville, and plays club soccer with the Javanon team. She is a member of the Kentucky state ODP team and her high school's All-District team. Boyle is the daughter of Silas and Mollie Boyle. "Meagan is a very talented goalkeeper with significant potential to develop," states Erwin. "She holds a solid work ethic as well as strong technical skills. She has the will to be successful and will definitely push the starting goalkeeper for playing time."

A 5-11 midfielder, Landry attends Tesoro High School and plays club soccer for the Southern Cal Blues team. She is the daughter of Alan and Lisa Landry. "Laura is a strong and aggressive player that is technically proficient," states Erwin. "She will fit in very easily with the SMU team dynamics and possesses the ability to impact as a freshman."

A 5-6 outside midfielder, Medeiros currently attends Highlands Ranch High School. She plays club soccer with Real Colorado, and is the daughter of Gary and Sue Medeiros. "Kristin is a very athletic and energetic player with strong technical skills," says Erwin. "She always gives 100% in everything she does. She can attack from any outside position and has the potential to be a four-year starter here at SMU."

Michener is a 5-7 defender who attends Owen J. Roberts High School. A former national team youth pool player, she is a member of the 2006 NSCAA/adidas Girls High School Scholar All-America Team. Having served as team captain, she is a two-time first-team All-League selection as her high school team won the state championship her freshman year. A six-year member of the Pennsylvania state ODP team, Michener was a four-year member of the Regional team and attended two National team camps. She plays soccer with the Pennsylvania club team. Her parents are Peter and Susan Michener. "Rachel is a talented player that can attack and defend equally well," says Erwin. "She's a very good leader and will be expected to start this fall and contribute positively during her career at SMU."

Shepherd hails from the Dallas area and attends Lake Highlands High School. A four-year letterwinner, Shepherd was named the 2005 District 10-5A Newcomer of the Year. She is a four-year member of the North Texas State ODP team and has been playing club soccer with the Solar club since 1999. Serving as team captain for six years, her club team was a state semi-finalist in 2005, a two-time semi-finalist at the Disney Soccer Showcase, and a quarterfinalist in the 2004 Texas Cup. She is the daughter of Sandra Shepherd. "Lauren is very athletic and a smart attacking player," states Erwin. "She has exceptional skills in the air and is technically sound. Lauren has such a great attitude when it comes to scoring goals. She's a team player and a strong leader in everything that she does."

"I would be remiss if I did not thank all of the SMU staff and our Athletics Director, Steve Orsini, who helped put this class together," adds Erwin. "Everyone at SMU did a great job showcasing our wonderful University. I cannot wait to get these players on campus competing for SMU."
