Friday brought the District 3-6A race to a close as the teams played their final match day of games.  The 1st and 4th  place positions were settled prior as Abilene had clinched the district title while Keller Central was locked into the final playoff spot.  The only drama was to decide who would finish in 2nd place.  Would it be Fossil Ridge or the hard charging Keller Indians who have been steadily climbing the table after a slow start.

Keller began the evening trailing 2nd placed Fossil Ridge by two points in the standings.  The Indians would need to take care of Haltom and then hope Abilene could beat Fossil Ridge across town.  Their hot play continued as Keller rolled to a solid 3-0 victory and will head into the playoffs winners in 9 out of their last 10 games.

The big match of the night was Abilene traveling to face Fossil Ridge.  Despite having the district title clinched, Abilene arrived looking for a bit of revenge as FR had won the earlier matchup this season out west. Fossil Ridge were in need of a result to clinch 2nd place.  Abilene came out on the front foot jumping ahead in the game, but the Panthers answered just before halftime.  It would take penalty kicks to find a winner.  Abilene won the spot kicks, but Fossil Ridge had the point they needed to clinch 2nd place on differential.

Keller Central traveled out to last placed Weatherford and took care of business winning comfortably by a 3-1 margin.  Keller Central now looks ahead to a difficult opening round playoff matchup against District 4-6A champions Arlington Sam Houston.  The Arlington powerhouse comes into the playoff match next week with a 16-2-1 record and a #5 state ranking.

So the final standings show the playoff teams in this order:
1. Abilene HS
2. Fossil Ridge
3. Keller HS
4. Keller Central

In the playoffs the District 3-6A squads will matchup against District 4-6A which was won by traditional powers Arlington Sam Houston.  The middle of the district was quite tight between the other playoff sides of Arlington Bowie, FW Paschal and Arlington Lamar.  Expect some extremely competitive opening round playoff games!

Abilene v Arlington Lamar - Friday in Abilene
Fossil Ridge v FW Paschal - to be announced
Keller v Arlington Bowie - Thursday 6:00 at Pennington Field
Keller Central v Arlington Sam Houston - Thursday 7:30 at Pennington Field
