Everyone knew it would be a good match when the brackets came out with the Arlington girls facing off against Paschal in the bidistrict round of the 5A playoffs. The game certainly lived up to expectations on a windy Tuesday night. My how the wind would play havoc with this match. Paschal opened the game with the wind at their backs and immediately jumped out to a quick lead. Arlington was hanging by a thread. Goals from Micayla Brown, Madeline Hamm and Kathleen Krippel had Paschal sporting a 3-0 lead and looking for more. Just before halftime Arlington would grab some much needed life and completely swing the momentum in the game. Molly Kate McLaughlin would score with only 12 seconds left to draw Arlington within 3-1 heading to halftime. With the wind at their backs in the second half, Arlington came out flying looking for the goals they needed. Anne Wheeler scored midway thru to cut the lead to 3-2, but time was running short. Once again it was a very late goal that would haunt the Paschal girls. This time with only 22 seconds to play Aykay Kleifgen put home a rebound and Arlington forced the game to overtime tied at 3. Neither side scored in overtime and the shootout would be needed. It came down to the last kick for Arlington with Paschal leading by a goal. Paschal keeper Julia Hoffman was up to the task as she made the save putting Paschal into the next round. Amarillo will be their opponent on Friday night with the game tentatively scheduled for Wichita Falls.
