Big second half lifts Seattle past FC Dallas

After a torrid start to the 2015 MLS season things have it been going well of late for FC Dallas. It has been over a month since the team has even won a game.  Saturday presented a major challenge for a slumping team.  A visit to Seattle to face the Sounders with a roster depleted by international duty and injuries.  No Matt Hedges. No Tesho.  No Moises Hernandez. Oscar Pareja was forced to give 17 year old Alex Zendejas his first ever start.

The team perservered though as they stood strong.  Fabian Castillo was the best player on the field in the early goings and Zendejas looked the part as well.  The big question was if the make shift back line that featured Hollingshead and Michel could hold up.

At the other end it was more Fabian Castillo than the Sounders cared to see.  In the 29th a bit of Castillo magic should have out the visitors in front as he skipped past three Seattle defenders and bore down on goal.  Unfortunately his shot was not true and it banged off the post and out for a goal kick.  Man if this kid could finish.  He leaves one or two goals begging every match it seems. I do agree his finishing is light years better than a couple years back, but still not up to the chances he creates.

Just a couple minutes after another flowing Dallas attack left Bekker in on the Sounders goal.  Sounders keeper Stephan Frei went down and made a nice save with his right hand to keep the game scoreless.  As the first half drew to a close FC Dallas had nothing to show for their efforts despite being much the better team.  Scoreless at the break.

Seattle emerged from the locker room with a renewed vigor.  They were much more physical and willing to force the action.  It took the visitors by surprise and Dallas were on their heels from the whistle.

A bad exchange between Ulloa and Bekker led to a soft turnover thirty yards from the FCD goal.  The ball fell for Lamar Neagle who fired a hard, low shot int the side netting for the opening goal.  Not a good goal to give up coming immediately from a situation where Dallas had clear possession and an opportunity to clear the back.

And just like that FC Dallas were on their way to another loss.  The Sounders brought on Obafemi Martins and within a few minutes it was 2-0 to the home side.  With the FCD offense having not even scored a goal in six weeks, a comeback was unlikely.  It would get worse in fact as Leo Gonzalez scored late in injury time.

The cold streak just keeps getting longer for FC Dallas and with another road match looming things might not be getting any better.  The team keeps sliding down the standings in the ultra competitive MLS Western Conference.
