FC Dallas defeats Toronto on late Blas Perez goal

The National Bank of Canada rolled in to Frisco on Saturday night.  Ooops I mean Toronto FC.  After spending millions this offseason on Gilberto, Jermain DeFoe, Michael Bradley and Julio Cesar Toronto should be battling for the top record in the league.  Instead they look more like a MASH unit with a very ordinary 3-2-0 record.  Dwayne DeRosario and Jermain DeFoe were out injured along with 5 other TFC players.  In fact their healthy player count was so low that they had three goalkeepers in their 18. FC Dallas were needing to grab another important home victory and stay atop the MLS Western Conference.

Once again that very questionable FC Dallas defense reared its ugly head in the 21st minute.  Young Kellyn Acosta allowed Issey Nakajima-Farran way too much time on the ball inside the FCD penalty area.  Chris Seitz made the initial save, but the ball went right back to Issey who ripped another low ball.  The shot deflected off JeVaughn Watson and into the net for an own goal.

FC Dallas was flying on the other end creating plenty of dangerous chances.  It looked like there was no way Toronto would be able to shut out Dallas this night.  The set pieces were clearly going to be the downfall of Toronto as they kept giving the best fre kick taker in the MLS Michel chance after chance.

Finally TFC paid as Matt Hedges headed home his second goal of the season on a Michel corner kick.  FCD could have cashed in a couple of more times, but Toronto keeper Julio Cesar made a couple of reaction saves.  The half ended with Dallas on the front foot and looking to get the win in the second half.

The second half was all one way traffic as TFC rarely mounted any type of possession across midfield.  The question was if Dallas could find the winner.  Despite all the pressure the game moved into the last five minutes before FCD found the net.  A free kick from Michel was headed up by Keel.  Matt Hedges won the second ball heading it into the middle where Blas Perez was waiting to ram it home.  Typical Blas Perez.  We see him do it for Panama and we see him do it time in and time out for FCD.

Toronto almost scored on their only chance of the second half as a long Orr cross found the head of Weidemann who headed over the crossbar.  Game over FC Dallas 2 Toronto FC 1.  The win keeps FC Dallas at the top of the MLS Western Conference standings with a sterling record of 5-1-1.
