FC Dallas blast rivals Houston in US Open Cup

The Texas Derby turned out to be a Texas Massacre Wednesday night in Frisco as FC Dallas blasted the Houston Dynamos 3-0.  The win moves FCD into the US Open Cup quarterfinals where they will host the Portland Timbers.

A good old fashioned battle was expected.  It never materialized as Kenny Cooper scored twice and Dallas won easily against their rivals from South Texas.

After a quiet opening 30 minutes the home side took over.  A Michel freekick led to the goal.  His curling ball found Andrew Jacobson at the backpost where he knocked down for an easy tap in from Kenny Cooper. 

It was another set piece that broke open the game after halftime.  A Michel corner kick was headed home by Cooper and Dallas had their comfortable lead.  A Houston goalkeeping mistake resulted in the third goal as Tyler Deric dropped a high ball for Zach Loyd to chip home.

At the other end Dallas keeper Chris Seitz posted his third shutout of the year as the defense kept the Dynamo quiet for most of the night.  Next up are the Timbers who will be in Frisco on June 26th in quarterfinal play.
