FC Dallas stuns LA Galaxy on late Brek Shea winner

It looked like the weather would be the winner once again at Pizza Hut Park.  Last week it was the Dallas Cup final between Tigres and Eintracht Frankfurt that was ended in a draw due to the weather.  Tonight it looked like the same would happen to FC Dallas and the LA Galaxy, but after an hour rain delay the teams returned to the field to find a winner.

After an opening 15 minutes where the two teams felt each other out, the match really opened up and we got what was expected.  An open, attacking game between two of the best sides in MLS.  FC Dallas created chances later in the first half, but Galaxy keeper Donovan Ricketts turned aside the shots sending the game to halftime scoreless.

The second half saw rain and lightning as well as goals.  The match was still wide open, but the heavy rain tended to rule the play.  FC Dallas struck first when Andrew Jacobson headed on a long throw in to Fabian Castillo who flicked the ball over the surprised Ricketts and into the net.  Los Angeles would answer right back though in fine fashion.

Juninho played a wonderful cross to the backpost where Landon Donovan beat Zach Loyd to even the game.  After that the rains came in buckets.  The match was halted in the 82nd minute due to dangerous lightning.  It looked like the match might have to be called a 1-1 draw, but after an hour delay the two teams returned to the field to finish the game.

FC Dallas would find the winner just minutes later when Brek Shea got loose down the left side.  He searched inside for runners and stepped into a cross.  The ball floated to the backpost and drifted into the back side netting for a goal.  It was a stunning winner and ended the Galaxy's five match unbeaten streak.
