Another game....another wonderful goal from Brek Shea leading FC Dallas to victory. The young FC Dallas left winger is making quite the name for himself this year. A league leading 9 goals on the season. A MLS leading 5 game winning goals and a spot on the MLS All Star squad.
The result spoiled the MLS debuts of Toronto’s two new designated players, forward Danny Koevermans and midfielder Torsten Frings, who both went the full 90 minutes.
After a scoreless opening half the Brek Shea goal came in the 48th minute. After initiating a breakout by intercepting a ball near midfield, Shea finished it off by thundering a left-footed shot from outside the box into the upper left corner.
Toronto (3-10-9) put the ball in the net shortly after Shea's tally but Joao Plata was called for offside on the play. Dallas came close to doubling their lead in the 60th minute but TFC goalkeeper Stefan Frei stopped Shea’s point-blank, right-footed shot from the right side of the box. The rebound fell to Dallas forward Mavin Chavez, who headed on goal but new Toronto defender Andy Iro was there to clear.
The win moves FCD into a tie with Seattle for 2nd in the Western Conference, but Dallas does have a game in hand. They continue their East Coast swing this Saturday, July 23 when they face the NY Red Bulls.
