TCU women slip past Toledo on Jordan Calhoun goal
Published 9/9/2011 10:17:41 PM by staff from dallas
All it took was a single shot for the TCU womens soccer team on Friday night. It was their only shot on goal of the night, but Jordan Calhoun made it count as she put the ball away for the 1-0 win over Toledo. It was the opening game of the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock.
Toledo bossed most of the game outshooting TCU 20-5, but the Lady Frogs keeper Alicen Wright stood tall making five saves for her second shutout of the season. TCU improves to 3-3 on the season. The winning goal came in the 68th minute as Calhoun notched her 30th career goal.
"The goal was a great individual effort for Jordan," Coach Abdella said. "We were able to catch their backline sleeping and she to use some of her craftiness to create the opportunity. That's exactly what we have been missing without her out there and we need to create more chances as we move forward."
TCU returns to the pitch Sunday morning at 10am as they close out the tournament against Hofstra.
