FC Dallas destroys San Jose behind Castillo and Akindele

The FC Dallas offense was on full display last night in San Jose.  In particular it was Fabian Castillo and Tesho Akindele.  The two were completely unstoppable as Castillo notched two goals and an assist while the rookie Akindele grabbed his first professional hat trick.  Can anyone say MLS Rookie of the Year?

It was a night that just got worse and worse for the struggling Earthquakes.  After playing the opening thirty minutes scoreless things opened up before halftime.  Dallas goals from Castillo and Akindele put SJ well behind and when they had a chance to get back in the match Wondolowski failed in major fashion by launching a penalty kick over the crossbar.  The second half was even worse as Castillo and Akindele combined to scored three more goals in running out 5-0 winners.

Young Colombian winger Fabian Castillo is becoming a real force in the MLS.  Easily one of the most dynamic attackers in the league.  This has definitely been his breakout year.  "He has a better understanding what his responsibilities are without the ball,” coach Oscar Pareja said. “And when you have a player who understands that and is a team player, not just an island, all these things come together.”

FC Dallas are now unbeaten in their last nine MLS matches at 6-0-3 as they climb up the MLS Western Conference standings.  They are now firmly entrenched in third place and are only two points behind the Seattle Sounders.

It was the worst loss in the history of the San Jose Earthquakes and on their home field to boot.  This FC Dallas squad is solid and the rest of the league is going to find out in the next few years.  Six of the starters in San Jose were 23 years old or younger!

FC Dallas returns home next weekend for an important matchup with conference leaders Real Salt Lake.  A win would pull FC Dallas even with RSL on 42 points!
