FC Dallas heading to Central America for Champions League

FC Dallas received a tricky yet manageable draw for the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League.  The MLS side were placed in a group along with Nicaraguan side Real Esteli FC and Guatemalan squad Club Deportivo Suchitepéquez.  Both teams are their domestic champions so don't pencil FC Dallas into the next round quite so fast.

It is never easy having to make the trip to play in Central America.  The home crowds are boisterous and rowdy.  Games tend to deteriorate into track meets quite quickly.  Craziness tends to prevail.  Add the FC Dallas wide open style of play and we could see some wild matches I think.

But rest assured, this is a grouping that our boys should progress from.  Oscar Pareja and management have done a nice job of adding talent and depth to the roster in advance of the extra competition.  This should allow FC Dallas to navigate the Champions League while not compromising their position in the MLS Western Conference.

Real Esteli of Guatemala has competed in the last four editions of the CONCACAF Champions League.  They are winless in twelve matches managing to claim four draws and eight losses.  Club Deportivo Suchitepéquez is competing in their first CCL after winning their first Guatemalan league championship in 33 years.

Schedules will be released at a later date with the competition beginning in the fall.
