A crowd of over 57,000 watched EPL giants Chelsea defeat Club America 2-0 and claim the World Football Challenge Sunday evening in Arlington. While a monster thunderstorm raged outside, the lively crowd inside the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium were treated to some wonderful soccer as Chelsea rode a pair of second half goals to victory.
The first half saw Club America weather some major pressure from Chelsea, but not give up a goal and make it to the half all even. They couldn't withstand the onslught through the second half though. It was a pair of goals in just three minutes that broke open the match. In the 76th a deft Florent Malouda chip into the box froze Club America keeper Armando Navarrete so that Franco Di Santo could slip in and tuck the ball away. Only two minutes later Malouda would get one for himself as Di Santo returned the favor supplying a nice pass.
With the win Chelsea finished the World Football Challenge unbeaten in their three matches. Club America claimed 2nd place just ahead of Inter Milan. AC Milan finished last after losing to rivals Inter earlier in the day. Chelsea now heads back to England to continue preseason preparations leading up to the EPL opener with Hull on August 15th.
