The SMU mens team posted an impressive victory over 3rd ranked Virginia Friday night while the SMU women defeated Kansas to remain perfect in two games this year.  Brittany Cleveland notched 5 goals on the weekend as North Texas improved to 4-0.

SMU Mens Soccer -
The SMU mens team took the title of the Mi Cocina Classic in grand fashion this weekend.  The boys took a convincing 5-1 win over #3 ranked Virginia on Friday night and capped it off with a solid 1-0 win over Georgetown on Sunday.

On Friday SMU routed Viringia 5-1 on goals from Scott Corbin, Bruno Guarda, Leone Cruz, Ryan Mirsky and Richard Oliva.  "As a team, we're still figuring things out," said Mustang Coach Schellas Hyndman. "I thought the biggest difference from our first game until now is that, simply put, our players got better. That's one of our strengths as a coaching staff. We help kids improve. That said, this is quite an accomplishment for SMU soccer."

The Mustangs outshot the Georgetown Hoyas 16-7 and allowed just three shots on goal.  Gabe Arredondo scored the Mustangs lone goal in the 35th minute as he hit a 25-yard shot from right of center for his first tally of the season.

SMU Womens Soccer -
The SMU women's soccer team downed Kansas, 2-0, Sunday at Kansas, improving their record to 2-0. The Mustangs struck early, scoring the first goal of the game at 27:01. Senior Kimber Bailey fed a pass down the far sideline to sophomore Kim Peabody who was waiting in the box.  The Jayhawks took 10 shots in the first period, but were unable to score. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Gunterhad eight saves in the game.

In the second period, neither team allowed the other to score. The Jayhawks took six shots, but Gunter denied their advances. In the 90th minute, the Mustangs connected on their third shot of the period, an unassisted goal for freshman Kristen Medeiros.  Kansas' goalkeeper misplayed the ball, allowing the insurance goal for SMU.

TCU Womens Soccer -
TCU outshot Rice, 19-18, but dropped a 1-0 double overtime match to the Owls on Friday night at the Rice Soccer Stadium.  TCU and Rice battled to a 0-0 draw in the first half. The Horned Frogs outshot the Owls, 9-8, for the half and squandered several missed opportunities on the offensive side of the field.   TCU's Jackie Torda opened the second period looking to break the tie, but failed to connect on two consecutive shots early in the half. Sophomore
Anna Paulson tried to find the back of the net 30 minutes into the half, but couldn't beat Owl goalkeeper Meghan Erkel. The Horned Frogs will next be in action Tuesday against UT-San Antonio. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

North Texas Womens Soccer -
Junior Brittany Cleveland exploded for four goals as the North Texas women’s soccer team scored early and often in its 8-0 rout of Lamar (0-3) in the first game of the Holiday Inn Classic. Cleveland’s four goals are most goals scored by a Mean Green player since Marilyn Marin notched four goals of her own on Sept. 26, 2003.

Brittany Cleveland scored her second game-winning goal in as many games to lift the North Texas women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Northwestern State at the Holiday Inn Classic. North Texas has matched its best start in school history at 4-0.
