Colleyville Heritage knocks off Trinity

Colleyville Heritage and Trinity opened district 7-6A play at Pennington Field on Tuesday.  Never an easy place to win a game as Trinity is always a difficult opponent at home.  Heritage made the trip looking to serve notice that they are to be taken as a real contender for the district title.

The big matchup of the night would be the dynamic Colleyville attack of Jackson Zeledon, Connor Cole, Jonathan Martin and Omri Sharf against the stingy Trinity defense led by Dylan Yu and Scotty Welch.   Trinity has had trouble finding offense and it could be a difficult ask against the talented Ryan Jakszta and friends.

The opening fifteen minutes belonged to the Trinity defense as they spurned every Colleyville attempt to get forward.  Despite playing center back for DFW Tejanos in Division 1 of the Dallas Classic League, Trojan coach Tracey Duran unleashed Scotty Welch in the midfield and it seemed to be paying dividends in the early going.

The first good opportunity of the game fell to Colleyville Heritage in the 22nd minute as Jackson Zeledon let loose a 25yard strike after a long run by Omri Sharf through the midfield.  The Heritage fans groaned as the low strike went just wide of the right post.

Finally Colleyville broke through just before halftime as they caught Trinity on a counter.  Jackson Zeledon got down the left to the end line before cutting a perfect ball back to the penalty spot.  Jonathan Martin raced in and fired a good shot that Trinity keeper Josh Harris made a nice save on.  He left a fat rebound though and Pavel Salas tried a back heel from close range that was blocked.  Trinity couldn't clear and Martin was there to poke it home and put the visitors on top.  1-0 to the break.

Trinity opened the 2nd half looking to find the key to break down the Colleyville defense.  It looked like they had the game tied in the 47th as a long range shot looped over the head of keeper Joshua Clark and came off the crossbar.  The ball bounced down and and spun out of the net.  With the long range shot and the defense pushed up it meant the linesman was well u the field too.  Nobody was able to make a definitive call on the ball being over the line.  From my vantage point high up at Pennington Field it sure looked like the ball bounced across the goal line.

Heritage immediately went the other way and earned a corner kick which they would cash in on.  Trinity was unable to clear the initial ball and Connor Cole was there for the easy finish.  2-0 to Colleyville Heritage and the Trojans were in big trouble.

The match was quiet from there as Colleyville locked the match down.  Trinity just did not have the offense to get back into the game.  It would end 2-0 as Colleyville Heritage opened district play with a comfortable victory.
