Colleyville Heritage upsets Trinity

Colleyville Heritage visited Trinity needing an upset to get a run at the 4th and final playoff spot from District 6-5A.   The Trojans were looking to keep their solid season going and solidify their playoff positioning.  The Trojans currently sit 3rd behind Irving Nimitz and Carrolton Turner.

It was a cagey start as both sides battled it out in the midfield the opening minutes.  The first chance of the game would fall to Heritage as they forced a diving save from Trinity keeper Ian Reyes.  It was a soft shot that with any power behind it would have found the net.  It was not the start the favored Trojans were looking for.

Trinity would punch back though as minutes later a low cross brought the Panther keeper Adam Gaudet into action as he dove low to handle the ball.  The Trojans claimed their first shot of the night in the 15th minute as Jose Martinez whistled wide.

Trinity was slowly starting to push Heritage into their own half.  But after 30 minutes they still had nothing to show for their control.  The visitors defense would hold strong and the match limped to halftime scoreless.

Neither side really needed a draw so a better second half was expected.  Colleyville's Jackson Zeledon fired the first shot of the half, but it was straight into the chest of keeper Ian Reyes.

Trinity went to the other end and created a chance of their own as Nihad Ramovic played a nice ball back for Diego Zuniga who fired over the crossbar.  Definitely more offense in the second half.

Heritage was playing better after the break and looked capable of pulling the upset.  Just then they scored.  After playing very corner kick low to the near post, Heritage put a high ball to the back post.  A loose ball rolled to Jackson Zeledon who poked home to take the lead.

Trinity would need to answer or see their hopes of a top two district go down the drain.  They had plenty of time to get back.    The match would get a bit testy as Trinity  was clearly getting frustrated by their situation.

The Trojans were pressing and Colleyville began sitting deeper and deeper.  Would they be able to hold out the final 10 minutes?

Trinity would get a golden opportunity as a perfect free kick found Jose Martinez at the back post unmarked.  Unfortunately he could not keep the header down as it flew just over.

With five minutes to play it was looking like Heritage was going to earn the upset.  Could Trinity create another chance?  The answer would be no as the game ended 1-0 to Colleyville Heritage.

As the night came to a close, Trinity left with their playoff position a little less secure and Colleyville Heritage got on the bus with a renewed playoff hope.
