Seattle wins it late on Cooper goal

A trip to the northwest to face the Seattle Sounders is always a difficult ask under any circumstances.  Throw in all the FC Dallas roster issues and the trip takes on an even different light.  Forced to play without several regulars Dallas almost pulled off a very good result Wednesday night, but in the end they lost once again.

Seattle got a late goal from non other than Kenny Cooper to beat FCD 2-1.  Yes.  The Kenny Cooper who can barely hit a barn with his finishing skills actually scored an important goal coming off the bench in the 86th minute.

Dallas had taken a shock lead in the opening half when Blas Perez earned a penalty kick via a Brad Evans foul.  Michel stepped up and finished the spot kick in the 16th minute of play.  Seattle would not go quietly though as they attacked in waves.

Raul Fernandez and the Dallas defense went to work from there.  The visitors often had ten men behind the ball as they desperately tried to protect the precious lead.  They could not hold out though despite epic time wasting ploys.

Lamar Neagle tied the game after halftime getting deep into the FCD penalty area for a clean finish.  It was all Seattle from there as one felt the second goal was inevitable.  FC Dallas keeper Fernandez was heroic as he made stop after stop, but he had no way to keep Kenny Cooper's close range ball from hitting the net in the 88th minute.

An Obafemi Martins cross found Cooper for the winner.  Martins, who was left off the Nigeria World Cup squad this week, notched both assists in the match as the Sounders.  It was the fifth time already this MLS season that Seattle has scored a winning goal in the final ten minutes of play.

"We wanted to keep the good shape we were playing with in the first half and at the same time try to play through their lines of defense," Dallas midfielder Andrew Jacobson explained to reporters. "They attacked very well but our guys fought hard, we just couldn’t hold on at the end there."

FC Dallas continues on the road as they travel to San Jose for their third game in seven days.
