Dallas Classic League Update March 8, 2009

Over half of the spring season is over and only a few games remain in 08-09 Dallas Classic League season.  The fight is on in several age groups for the Grand Championship, while others are struggling against relegation and striving for promotion.

Under 11 ---
Solar sits comfortably ahead and should take the Grand Championship this year with no problems.   Likewise Dallas Texans look comfortably in 2nd with a 5 point lead over 3rd place Andromeda.   Pumas ran into a tougher spring schedule and have fallen to a respectable 4th position with Dallas Tigres 2 points behind in 5th.   Pumas and Dallas Texans face off next weekend in a top 5 matchup.

The tight race for the coveted top 10 position and a D1 bye is working itself out.  DFW Tejanos and Liverpool have fallen off the pace and look to be headed to D2 next year.  Hurst United and Club Classic sit 11th and 12th with Club Classic's -15 goal differential a real hindrance.  Hurst has a favorable schedule over the last 4 matches and could make up the difference and possibly overtake 10th place TFC which still have Dallas Texans and FC Dallas left on their schedule.  Real Madrid (9th place and TFC face off this weekend in a huge match.

Under 12 ---
Draws were the flavor of the day in gameweek 14 as four of five games were ties.  Dallas Texans South 97 currently hold a 3 point lead over FC Dallas while Dallas Texans Red 97 sit third in the standings 7 points behind and effectively out of the title race. FC Dallas and Dallas Texans South face off in the final week of the season.  South holds a six goal lead in differential though which makes the current 3 point lead significant. On the bottom of the standings, ASG and Dallas Tigres have major ground to make up to avoid relegation.  It looks quite doubtful either can survive.

In D2 FC Dallas Gold is almost clinched for promotion, while DFW Tejanos hold a 5 point lead over third place TFC in the standings.  D3 is pretty much decided as Fort Worth FC and Solar White are poised to move up.

Under 13 ---
Dallas Texans 96 pretty much have the league wrapped up with three games to go.  They hold a six point lead over Solar as well as a whopping advantage in differential.  FC Dallas sits 3rd just two points behind Solar.  The bottom end of the standings has gotten interesting as Solar Red and DFW Tejanos are both dropping like rocks.  Club Classic has put together two straight wins and find themselves only 1 point out of safety.  The big game this weekend has last place Andromeda facing off with 8th place DFW Tejanos.  A Tejanos loss would put them in deep trouble as their last two games are top 4 teams.

In D2 it looks like Dallas Texans South and Dallas Texans West are coming up.  Both are tied on 30 points and hold a 5 point lead over 3rd place TFC.

Under 14 ---
Dallas Texans Red took a big step to the Grand Championship this weekend as they defeated 3rd place CD Independiente, but the big news was 8th place FC Dallas North defeating 2nd place Solar Red.  The results opened a 5 point gap at the top with only 3 games to go.   The FC Dallas North win also ended the relegation battle as it is clear Dallas Texans East and ASG Gold are heading to D2.

In D2, we have a real dogfight to decide the two teams to be promoted.  Fort Worth FC, Fort Worth United and Comets are within two points of each other.   Fort Worth United fell out of 1st place with a surpirsing loss to 8th place Titans.  Fort Worth United and Comets face off in a huge match on Saturday.  Hurst United has run away with D3 and look to be major players in D2 next year.
