The opening day of Dallas Cup XXIX has drawn to a close.  The big news of the day was the Andromeda upset of defending champs Sao Paolo FC of Brazil in Super Group play, but attention was already turning to the incoming weather which calls for potential tornados and up to 3 inches of rain over the next couple of days.

Super Group --
The US National Champion Andromeda 90 rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat defending champions Sao Paolo FC.  Andromeda regrouped at halftime and came out refreshed. Andromeda showed a dominance in the air and between solid service and some woeful Brazilian goalkeeping found the net 5 times in the 2nd half to win 5-2.  Three goals in the last 15 minutes broke a 2-2 tie.  A shocking result for day 1, but a wonderful win for American soccer. In other Super Group play, Liverpool FC announced their intentions with a resounding 7-1 win over Bosnian side FC Slavija. The other games were all tight affairs though.  Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany battled CD Guadalajara to a 1-1 draw while Benfica took control of the group with a 1-0 win over Whitecaps FC from Canada.  Tigres looks to be the best threat to Liverpool in Group B after their 2-1 win over Japanese side Ryutsu Keizai Kashiwa.

Under 19 --
Favorites Solar SC and Dallas Texans Red both opened with solid wins as Solar defeated Chinese side Beijing Sangao FC 4-0 and Texans defeated Lewisham College Academy.  Dutch side SC Cambur Leeuwarden beat Comets 2-1 while English regulars Knowsley Youth won whiole Royal Navy lost.

Under 17 --
The Mexican sides of Tigres and CF Monterrey both got off on the winning track as they dispatched FC Dallas and North Texas Strikers.  Dallas Texans Red and Andromeda both also notched convincing wins.  Top ranked Real SoCal opens tomorrow.

Under 16 --
Dallas Texans didnt show much hospitality to the guests from South Africa as they thrashed iKapa United 5-0.  Solar SC defeated the U15 Bermuda National team 1-0 and Solar Red knocked off Costa Rican side Brujas Escazu 2-1.

Under 15 --
Foreign sides rules the day as they took 3 of 4 matches and drew the 4th.  Last year's finalist CF Monterrey defeated DFW Tejanos 2-0.

Under 14 --
Dallas Texans Red 94 crushed the U13 Bermuda National team 4-0 while Solar SC took care of San Nicolas of Mexico 1-0.  CD Guadalajara showed they are title contenders as they defeated Longhorns 1-0.

Under 13 --
Southampton FC of England started with a solid 4-2 win over ASG of Dallas while Dallas Texans defeated Erin Mills 3-1.  Solar earned a hard fought scoreless draw with Tigres which leaves Group B wide open.
