Dallas Cup - Manchester United and Fulham with opening day wins

Both English sides claimed impressive opening day wins in Dallas Cup XXXIV Super Group play.  ManU won a contentious game against Club America from Mexico while Fulham knocked off Cortiba 3-1.

Fulham fired the first shots of Dallas Cup as they served notice by defeating defending champions Brazilians Cortiba by a 3-1 score.  Salomon Sambou was in fine form as he bossed the midfield against a talented Cortiba side.  A Cauley Woodrow header at the end of the first half set FFC on their way.

Woodrow had another header disallowed in the opening minutes of the second half, but it didn't slow Fulham who were intent on smashing the Brazilian side.  Fulham brought on Jordan Evans who scored with his first touch,  Muamer Tankovic scored a beauty to make it 3-0 before Cortiba grabbed a late consolation goal making it 3-1.  An impressive win for sure as Fulham show they will be a force in the tournament.

In the nightcap Manchester United ran into a feisty side from Mexico in Club America.  It didn't take long for the two sides to decide they did not like each other much at all.  A few crunching tackles from the English side drew the ire of CA and earned yellows for the English boys.  Midway through the first half United created a pair of golden opportunities within minutes of each other only to see a header flash wide and a breakaway turned away.

At the stroke of halftime Club America got their big chance as the referee awarded a penalty after a clear flop in the box.  Gilberto Perez hit the spotkick low and hard, but United keeper Pierluigi Gollini dove to his right and made a great save to keep the game scoreless to the second half.

That's where James Wilson took over.  His speed gave Club America fits and he scored twice in the half to allow Manchester United to pull away for an entertaining 2-0 victory.

All the Super Group squads will be in action again today:
Manchester United - Dallas Texans
Kashiwa Reysol - Club America
Cortiba - Eintracht Frankfurt
Fulham - LA Galaxy
Fluminense - Aalborg BK
Tigres - Toronto FC
