Denton Ryan beat Abilene Wylie, 6-0, in a Class 4A Region I semifinal in girls soccer in Wichita Falls. This one was never in doubt as Ryan dominated from start to finish. Lindsey Eccles notched a hat trickin the victory as Denton Ryan won a regional semifinal in Wichita Falls and extended its winning streak to 17 games and its unbeaten streak to 19 games. Ryan has been absolutely dominant in the palyoffs so far outscoring its opponents, 34-0, in postseason play and hasn't given up more than four shots in a game.
Denton Ryan (25-2-1) will face rivals Wichita Falls in the regional final at noon Saturday and will be trying to advance to the state tournament in Georgetown for the first time since 1999. Wichita Falls beat Ryan, 1-0 in January. Denton Ryan opened the scoring at the 19:59 mark when Ashlee Beitinger took a quick pass from Eccles and shot the ball into the right corner of the goal. Five minutes later, Eccles got her first goal of the game on a penalty kick to give Ryan a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Lindsey Eccles, Ryan's leading scorer, scored twice in the second half to bring her total to 34 goals on the season. Ryan also got goals from Stevie Harris and from Natalie Cornejo. It was Harris's 28th goal of the year.
