District 10-5A coming down to final matchday

District 10-5A might only be a six team district, but do not overlook the talent and parity on the soccer field.  McKinney Boyd have the district title wrapped up heading into a Tuesday finale against rival McKinney.  The four of the other five teams are jockeying for playoff positioning or even playoff berths.

McKinney Boyd have gone through their first nine district matches unbeaten claiming six wins and three draws.  Very impressive for such a difficult schedule.  They face off against a motivated McKinney side tonight.  McKinney has clinched a playoff berth already, but are trying to hold onto the 3rd seed from Plano HS.  McKinney has the tie breaker over Plano HS so only a draw would be needed for McKinney to clinch 3rd. Plano HS needs to beat Allen and have McKinney lose to Boyd to jump into 3rd.

That leads us to the big game of the night.  Plano against Allen.  An Allen win would give them a playoff berth as they would finish tied with Plano for 4th place where it would come down to tiebreakers.  It looks like Allen needs to beat Plano HS by several goals to grab that important tiebreaker away.

Plano West will close out the season against rivals Plano East.  Plano West is locked into the 2nd position no matter what the result.  Plano East close out a frustrating season on Tuesday finishing out of the playoff race.  They could jump past Allen depending on results but 5th is the best possible finish.  The frustrations come from what could have been for Plano East.  Four of their district losses came by a single goal.  If they could have just been able to grab a couple of results from those one goal losses they would be sitting right in the thick of it.

1 McKinney Boyd 15
2 Plano West 11
3 McKinney 9
4 Plano HS 8
5 Allen 6
6 Plano East 5

Tuesdays games -
McKinney Boyd v McKinney
Plano West v Plano East
Allen v Plano
