District 3-6A Soccer at the halfway point

The first half of District 3-6A play is in the books with Keller Fossil Ridge tied atop the table with Abilene.  Keller and Keller Central hold the other two playoff positions with Timber Creek giving chase.  Weatherford and Haltom both look dead and buried and will look to play spoiler in the second half of district play.

Fossil Ridge jumped from to the top of table thanks to a massively impressive final two games where they beat Keller Central 3-2 and then took the long trip to Abilene and ran out 2-0 winners. What a performance!  Their only blemish of the opening half of district play was the opener on the road in Weatherford where they lost in a shootout. They’ll get a chance for revenge as Weatherford visits in the next match day.

Abilene looked to have a chance to run away with the district but the loss on home soil to Fossil clouds everything. A win would have put them a whopping six points clear, but now it looks like a dogfight to the end for the District 3-6A title.

Keller started slowly but are zooming up the standings of late. They seem to have their legs under them now and pose a real threat trailing the two leaders by only four points with plenty of time left in the race. Meanwhile, Keller Central have been up and down all season. Loaded with talent they just haven’t been able to put together a good run of results.  Trailing by five points they’ll have to go on a strong run to grab a top two spot in the final standings.

Timber Creek have their work cut out for them if they are going to grab one of the coveted playoff positions. Sitting four points behind CFC they can’t afford a slipup in the second round of games and will need to pull a couple of upsets. They’ll know their fate quickly as they get Central in the opening match day of the second round of games. Lose to CFC and their playoff dreams are poof!

Haltom have a plus defense but just can’t seem to score at all. They’ve only allowed 7 goals in six matches behind the strong center back play of Samuel Valle. Unfortunately they’ve only found the net 3 times. Weatherford boasts a leaky defense that have left them at the bottom of the standings.

District 3-6A Standings at the halfway point
Keller Fossil Ridge - 15
Abilene HS - 15
Keller HS - 11
Keller Central - 10
Timber Creek - 6
Haltom HS - 4
Weatherford - 2
