District 5-6A soccer - shockers open 2nd half of season

Just when you think you know……

We thought we had a pretty good feel for District 5-6A soccer after the opening half completed.  Then bam things go crazy with the first two games of the second half of district play.  This battle for playoff positioning looks to be quite the war.  Firstly, Keller Central travels north to Denton Ryan and takes them out on their home turf in impressive fashion.  Then untouchable Byron Nelson goes down at home to a rebounding Ryan side the next matchday.  Interesting results for sure at the top of the standings.

Byron Nelson still holds a comfortable four point lead at the top of the table with only five games left to play.  The real fights are for the 2-3 spots between Central and Ryan and the 4-5 spots between Keller and Fossil. It now looks like Timber Creek, Denton Guyer and Northwest are dead and buried.  They can still play a major factor in the final weeks though as they’ll look to take points off the top five.

Keller Central is off to a great start in the 2nd half of the district fight winning at Denton Ryan before coming home and taking the Keller Derby in penalties against the Indians.  CFC is in a dogfight for that 2nd playoff position with Ryan as both are even on 19 points.  It just might go down to the final match day to hash things out.  Denton Ryan does have the advantage of having four of their final five on home turf and also have BNHS & CFC already off their schedules.

Fossil Ridge has made their own surge taking care of business against bottom sides Northwest and Timber Creek. The quick six points push Fossil Ridge into a tie for 4th with Keller.  The Indians still have the advantage for the final playoff spot as their final five matches are considerably easier than Fossil’s.  The two sides do have a huge head to head coming up which will go a long way to determining the final playoff spot.

The big game for Tuesday of this week has leaders Byron Nelson visiting 4th place Keller.
