FC Dallas draws with 9 man Revolution

Mark this one down in the "how could you not win this one" category.  The early season frustrations continued for FC Dallas as they could not find a way to beat a New England squad playing with nine men.  A pair of second half red cards left the Revolution two men short for a long stretch Saturday night, but FC Dallas could only manage a 1-1 tie.

The first half was all FC Dallas as they put together attack after attack.  I could only sit and shake my head as balls went everywhere in the New Enland box but in the net.  Now I was not a huge Kenny Cooper fan by any means, but I will say with all the balls going across the face of goal, Kenny Cooper would have had a hat trick on the night.

One felt it was just a matter of time before FC Dallas scored as they racked up several golden opportunities.  Instead it was Dallas keeper Dario Sala that would make the monster mistake.  A nothing long ball out of the Revolution defense came bounding in just outside the FC Dallas penalty area.  Sala went to collect it, but upon seeing it was just outside the area he hesitated.

Kheli Dube was racing towards him now and Sala could have easily played it out of bounds safely.  Instead he decided to try to shield the ball out for a goal kick while he was a good 10 yards from the end line.  Dube raced around Sala and took the ball to goal where he slid a square ball to Zack Schilawski for the easy goal.  Somehow New England took a 1-0 lead to halftime.

The second half would have its wild moments.  The beginning was much the same as the first half as FC Dallas controlled play and searched for the tying goal.  In the 55th minute a nasty high boot challenge from Dube earned him a straight red card and the Revs were down to ten men.

In the meantime, FC Dallas were hitting the woodwork as Atiba Harris and Brek Shea barely missed.   Finally Dallas was able to tie the match though when a Dax McCarty free kick was headed home by Atiba Harris in the 66th.

New England would lose another man in the 72nd when Joseph Niouky made a rash tackle on Heath Pierce from behind.  FC Dallas poured players forward looking for the winner and looked like they had it in the 92nd when a loose ball fell to Brek Shea on the six but somehow he put his uncontested shot over the top.

In the end it was another frustrating result for FC Dallas who could only shake their head at not being able to finish off the nine man Revolution.  The draw leaves them mired in last place in the MLS Western Conference a whopping 11 points off the lead.
