FC Dallas breaks winless streak beating Colorado

Finally!  A good win on home soil from FC Dallas.  Saturday night Oscar Pareja’s boys showed resolve and rallied to beat the visiting Colorado Rapids 3-2 in a very entertaining match at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.  Hopefully this match can turn the tide.

Colorado started brightly running at the Dallas defense time after time.  They were rewarded for their persistence in the 25th minute when speedy forward Deshorn Brown used his own moment of creativity to chip FC Dallas keeper Raul Fernandez.  Would it be another long night for FCD?

Not tonight!  FC Dallas responded right back with the help of a deflection.  A  Jair Benitez free kick took a  deflection off of Andres Escobar to beat Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin in the 33rd minute.  The home side would grab the lead just before halftime when Zach Loyd notched his first goal of the season aided by a deflection of his own.

Dallas headed to the locker room with all the momentum leading 2-1.  It would be a shortlived lead though as Colorado answered after the restart.  Jose Mari tied the game at two scoring off a corner in the 52nd minute.  Would FCD limp to another disappointing result?  Heck no!

The stage was set for Fabian Castillo whose brilliant run ten minutes later won the game for FC Dallas. The Colombian won the ball near the center circle, beat three Rapids defenders directly off the dribble and then took a quick shot from the left side of the penalty area for the match winner.  After the goal, FC Dallas was able to control much of the rest of the match to earn their first victory since a 2-1 win over Toronto FC on April 19.

A good three points for sure, but now can the team put a string of good results together?  A tough order awaits.  FC Dallas next head to Portland to take on the Timbers Wednesday night.
