FC Dallas earn solid draw at Real Salt Lake

Finally a good result for FC Dallas.  It has been awhile that's for sure.  FCD earned a very solid road point with their first shutout of the season against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto.  Hopefully this can be a springboard for the squad going forward.

A good result was hardly expected with FC Dallas playing their third game of the week and RSL unbeaten in eleven to start the MLS season, but the visitors gutted it out right from the opening whistle.  Coach Oscar Pareja made five changes to the starting lineup from their midweek loss at Los Angeles.  “We came out with the mindset of being hard to beat,” said FCD goalkeeper Chris Seitz. “We didn’t get the three points, but we got the clean sheet in a tough place to play.”

In the 55th minute, RSL defender Nat Borchers nearly put in a header in, only to see it cleared off the line. In the 66th minute, Dallas midfielder crossed the ball almost perfectly in to forward Tesho Akindele, who put it wide right.

It was that kind of night for Dallas and RSL as neither team could fine that magic in the final third.

Real Salt Lake not only didn't win, they suffered a potentially serious loss to their squad. Forward Joao Plata had to come off the field after re-aggravating his left hamstring

Real Salt Lake and its coach matched Major League Soccer history on Saturday, as the tie kept RSL unbeaten and equaled the record for the longest season-opening unbeaten streak.  Dallas head home for some well earned rest and a home game with San Jose next weekend.

“It was a good performance from everyone,” said defender Matt Hedges about the defensive effort. “No mistakes. We did what we came here to do.”
