FC Dallas and Portland Timbers battle to 1-1 draw

FC Dallas and the Portland Timbers played to an entertaining 1-1 draw in Frisco Saturday afternoon. Roland Lamah continued his hot start to the season as he put the home side ahead in the 34th minute. Jacori Jayes slid a pass to Lamah who fired low into the net delighting the 14,000 fans. Dallas took the lead into the break with hopes of grabbing another home win.

The Timber had other ideas though as they emerged from the locker room with a renewed purpose.  It only took a couple of minutes for the visitors to even the score.  The Timbers’ Fanendo Adi found Sebastian Blanco with a pass on the right side of the area. Portland’s No. 10 cut inside, along the top of the box and curled a shot over the head of FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer.

FC Dallas regained their composure and attacked for the winner over the last thirty minutes of play. FC Dallas gained a man advantage in the 75th minute when Lawrence Olum intentionally used to hand to try and deflect a shot past Maurer. Referee Mark Geiger immediately cautioned Olum, his second of the match, leading to the midfielder’s ejection.

Portland’s Alvas Powell cut through the FC Dallas defense and nearly picked out the back post in the 84th minute. Fortunately for FCD, the defender’s attempt skipped just wide of the far post. Substitute Santiago Mosquera nearly broke through in the 86th minute. Dallas’ No. 11 sped down the left flank and got off a low shot that was kicked away by Gleeson. The rebound fell to another FC Dallas substitute, Ryan Hollingshead, but the left-back could not control his shot, which skipped wide of its target.

Even though the team is unbeaten through three matches it is simply not that good a start to the season. You must win your home matches to be a serious contender in MLS and FC Dallas only has one win to show from three home games.  It means FCD will need to get some points on the road to make up for the lost points in Frisco. After a break for Easter FC Dallas remains at home welcoming the Colorado Rapids to town. Simply a must win game.
