FC Dallas looks for first win of MLS season at Columbus

It has not been the start Coach Schellas Hyndman and FC Dallas were looking for.  Coming off a Western Conference championship the squad has extemely high expectations for this year.  With two home games to start the season, FC Dallas was expecting a flying start.

Instead the team has been grounded.  Only a single point to show from the two home games.  Only a single goal to show from the two home games. Not pretty at all, but luckily MLS is a long season and there is plenty of time to get going.   Hopefully a trip to Columbus can cure the ills.

The Crew are in the same boat.  Only a point to show from the first two games.  After a season opening road loss Columbus managed a draw at home with New York Red Bull last weekend.

FC Dallas gets Brek Shea back from suspension following his red card in the MLS opener where he was forced to play centerback due to injuries on the squad.  Hopefully he will be playing in the midfield and Ugo Ihemelu will be back at his regular centerback position.  Ugo has been slow to return from an injury.

The team will be looking to prevent an early goal, something they have been unable to do in the two home games.  FC Dallas has found themselves behind early in both contests. Not a good place to be in a sport that is very tough to comeback in.  On the other hand, Columbus have yet to score from opn play this season with their only goal coming via penalty kick.

The match is being televised on Fox Soccer tonight at 7:30pm.

FC Dallas slumps to loss in Columbus

The 2011 MLS season is just not off to a good start for the defending Western Conference champions.  Coach Schellas Hyndman threw out a goofy lineup as FC Dallas visited the Columbus Crew.  Brek Shea was once again out of position on defense and for some reason Jackson was in the center midfield.  Let's just say it didnt work.

Jackson lasted barely over half an hour before he was sent off for a pair of reckless challenges within minutes of each other.  FC Dallas were forced to play the remaining 55 minutes a man down due to his lack of composure.  Then in the second half Brek Shea drifted up into the midifeld leaving a huge gap for Ekpo to race into.  George John came across to try to fix it, but brought down Ekpo in the area for a penalty kick.

Mendoza put home the spot kick and Columbus were in front 1-0 and up a man.  Eddie Gaven scored a stoppage time goal to finish FC Dallas off as they slumped to their second consecutive loss.  FCD has only a single point to show from their opening three games.  They also only have a single goal scored as well.  Can we get Brek Shea out of the back and back into the midfield.  He was a dynamic attacking player last yer for the team.

FC Dallas returns home next weekend tofor a rematch of MLS up 2010 against the Colorado Rapids.  Hopefully the team can eliminate the sloppy play and grab an important three points.
