FC Dallas continues good run of form with Toronto FC win

No MLS MVP David Ferreira...no problem.  At least that seems to be the case.  In truth there are obvious problems that we saw last night against Toronto FC as there was a lack of forward runs.  Several times wingers were looking to put crosses into the box, but there were no FC Dallas players getting forward quickly enough.  The good thing is that the team is finding a way to win.  The bad thing is that it needs to be addressed before it costs them.

Toronto has still never won at Pizza Hut Park as a late first half penalty kick was the difference in a 1-0 FC Dallas victory.  It was a very questionable call that incensed the Toronto FC players and coaches.  The assistant coach was sent off for arguing.    On the play in question, FC Dallas flighted in a long freekick and the referee judged TFC center back Adrian Cann pulled down Dallas defender George John.  Replays showed it to be a tough decision.

FC Dallas captain Daniel Hernandez stepped up and knocked home the spotkick sending the home side into the break with a 1-0 lead.   After halftime, Toronto FC came out seeking better possession with playmaker Stevanovic working hard to make something happen for the Canadian side.

Toronto head coach Aron Winter subbed Joao Plata out after only five minutes and brought in Javier Martina to provide more offensive spark. But it was FC Dallas that continued to threaten. In the 73rd minute, Hernandez flicked a ball to Chavez that put the Honduran in on goal. Frei was up to the task, however, parrying the shot out for a corner.

Toronto’s lone scoring threat of the second half came two minutes later as Martina sprinted down the right sideline with Mikael Yourassowsky in a two on one. FCD defender Jackson Goncalves dove at Martina as he entered the 18-yard-box and Martina went down looking for the penalty call. Instead of pointing to the spot, Reyes issued a yellow to Martina for diving.

FC Dallas's (4-3-2) home stand continues as they take on the Philadelphia Union Saturday evening.
