FC Dallas acquires Andres Escobar and Hendry Thomas

It did not take much time for FC Dallas to pull the trigger on a pair of acquisitions after returning from their training trip to the Middle East.  First FCD traded for Colorado Rapids midfielder Hendry Thomas and then on Friday  it was the announcement that FCD has acquired 22 yr old Colombian forward Andres "Manga" Escobar on loan from Dynamo Kiev.  Both players should make huge impacts for the upcoming season and fill the two major weak spots on the roster.

Andres Escobar, nicknamed "Manga", will move right into the right winger position that was left open when Jackson was sent to Toronto FC.  It will give FC Dallas two young, attack-minded wingers from Colombia racing down the flanks in Escobar and Fabian Castillo.  Add Blas Perez as the point forward and the Dallas attack should be very solid and lethal in the counter attack.

“Escobar is a great young player,” said FC Dallas Technical Director Fernando Clavijo. “He has played in Europe for the last few years and I expect him and Fabian Castillo to form one of the best flank combinations in the league. Both players are very similar in their speed and ability to beat players one-on-one."

Just as important as the Escobar signing was the trade for defensive midfielder Hendry Thomas from Colorado.  The Honduran international joined the Rapids midway through the 2012 season and started the final eight games of that year before claiming 27 starts in 2013 with two goals and one assist for the Rapids.

Thomas has top flight experience having appeared in the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 Olympics for Honduras.  The defensive midfielder will give Dallas some added bite and depth that is sorely needed in their midfield.
