FC Dallas hands Chicago Fire first loss of 2009

What a strange, strange game soccer can be.  Unbeaten in 11 matches Chicago at home to an FC Dallas side with only 1 win on the year.  Maybe sometimes it just takes missing six players due to injury, suspension or sickness for FC Dallas to find the right lineup?  Anyhow, it was the most impressive performance of the season for FCD as they ran out to a 3-0 win and clinched the Brimstone Cup for another year.

Dallas came out fast grabbing a goal off a corner kick as Jeff Cunningham headed home.  Shortly thereafter Dax McCarty curled in a free kick that CJ Brown accidentally flicked into his own net and it was 2-0 Dallas.  FCD looked dangerous on set pieces all afternoon and almost scored again when McCarty rifled a header right into the chest of keeper JonBusch.

Chicago opened the 2nd half on the front foot and put pressure on the Dallas defense but were unable to grab a goal back.  In the 79th minute Brek Shea entered the match and had an immediate impact running at the Chicago defense. He got in behind and was pulled down by Bakary Soumare who earned his 2nd yellow on the play and sendoff.  Kenny Cooper flicked the ensuing kickoff off the crossbar and in for the final 3-0 margin.

It was FC Dallas' 2nd win of the season and with last place San Jose coming to town next weekend FCD has a chance to put a little winning streak together.
