FC Dallas leaves 12 unprotected for upcoming expansion draft
Published 11/22/2011 9:26:23 AM by staff from dallas
The MLS expansion draft for the new Montreal squad is Wednesday and MLS sides had to submit their protected list of players. FC Dallas has left twelve players available for Montreal to choose from. FCD can only lose one player from the list and might not lose anyone as Montreal can only select ten players from throughout the league.
Two backup goalkeepers were left unprotected in Chris Seitz and Josh Lambo. Seitz could be a potential pick as he has starting MLS experience. Lambo hasn't panned out in his time here in Dallas and with young Mexico U17 keeper Richard Sanchez in the wings Lambo's time is drawing to a close in Dallas.
Midfielders Bruno Guarda, Ricardo Villar and Daniel Cruz were left unprotected. Guarda could be a potential selection by Montreal, but my guess is he is safe. Captain Daniel Hernandez was also made available and is a top midfielder in MLS. FC Dallas knows he is safe as Montreal will be looking for younger players and Hernandez has injury concerns as he approaches the end of his solid career.
Forwards Maicon Santos was also on the list, but once again he should be safe. I think it is very realistic that FC Dallas might not have a player chosen on Wednesday making it through unscathed. My guess is Seitz or Guarda are the most likely choices if anyone goes.
