FC Dallas pulled the trigger on a trade with Toronto sending midfielder Eric Avila in exchange for Brazilian forward Maicon Santos. It is a much needed trade for Dallas as it gives them a forward that can step right into the rotation. With the avalanche of games the team is playing between the US Open Cup, MLS league and Champions League the depth Maicon Santos will provide will be very useful.
The team is running on fumes right now dealing with travel, injuries and the heat wave. Avila just wasn't the two way player that coach Hyndmann needed and his playing time has been mostly as a late game sub when FC Dallas was needing a goal.
“For us, it was very difficult to see Eric Avila leave,” Hyndman said in a statement. “We are going to miss him. He is a great team player. He has scored some very important goals for FC Dallas. He has been a part of this team for almost four years. He has some very good friends and coaches here in Dallas. The problem was he was not getting enough time here and I think Toronto FC really wanted Avila to be a part of their team, which encouraged us to make a trade.”
Maicon Santos did not play in Toronto's previous Champions League match thus he will be eligible to play for FC Dallas in the competiion.
