FC Dallas loses lead, falls in New York

FC Dallas wasted a 10th minute goal from Dax McCarty and fell 2-1 in New York to the Red Bulls as Juan Pablo Angel converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute.  Unfortunately, this FC Dallas team looks much the same as last year.  Sure there are some new names, but it was another good start followed by giving it away in the second half.  The same script we saw time after time last year.

This time it was Dax McCarty who opened the scoring for FC Dallas.  A perfect cross from Heath Pierce found Dax who headed it home and it looked like it might be a nice evening on the road.  The lead would hold up into the second half when everything seemed to go wrong.

The Red Bulls tied the game in the 56th minute, when Joel Lindpere brought the ball up the left flank, splitting two FC Dallas defenders, then making a drop pass back to Angel, who knocked it home.  NY was poised to go ahead in the 64th when Red Bulls earned a penalty kick, but the score remained tied as Juan Pablo Angel failed to convert.

At the other end of the pitch, Red Bull goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul was in fine form denying several quality FC Dallas shots.  He also got some help frolm the crossbar on an Atiba Harris strike.  The decisive moment came in the 90th minute when FC Dallas defender Daniel Hernandez took down Sinisa Ubiparipovic in the penalty area.  This time Angel would be true as he notched the winner.

With the loss FC Dallas stays in last place in the Western Conference with only 2 points to show from three matches.  New York moves to to the top of the Eastern Conference on 9 points from four matches.
