FC Dallas making offseason moves

Oscar Parea and his FC Dallas staff have been busy this offseason making roster moves to further strengthen the young squad.  Several players have left the roster most notably long term striker and team leader Blas Perez.  His production had decreased last year as the youngsters started to push past the aging veteran.  Also out are Michel and fan favorite Stephen Keel.  Walker Zimmerman is off the roster as his Generation Adidas contract expired, but I expect him to be resigned as he offers solid depth and is still young.

The major news of the offseason has been the arrival of former Seattle Sounder Maximilliano Urruti whom FC Dallas acquired in the MLS Re-entry Draft last month.  Urruti was long coveted by the staff and the team traded their 17th pick in the Re-entry draft along with allocation money.  A good deal if Urruti produces like management thinks he will next year.

“We’ve been following this player for a while. This is a player who has been around the league for a long time and is quality,” Technical Director Fernando Clavijo said. “I think what we have behind him if we put him up top with Tesho right now at the moment, I think you’re going to see Mauro, Castillo and  Barrios excelling and allowing Maximiliano to become a big part of this team in the future.

Team also traded goalkeeper Dan Kennedy to the LA Galaxy for 2nd and 3rd round selections in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.  Kennedy had become expendable with the emergence of young Jesse Gonzalez who excelled in the final month of the season.

Young holding midfielder Kellyn Acosta inked a new 5 year contract with the club which is welcome news to FC Dallas fans.  The 20 year received a US National Team callup this week from Jurgen Klinsmann where he will be the youngest player on the 23 man roster.

This week the club also signed 22 year old Aaron Guillen from Florida Gulf Coast University where he had an excellent college career.  He helped FC Dallas Youth win a National Championship in 2012. Guillen becomes the 14th Homegrown signing.

Expect more FC Dallas signings in the coming weeks.  The MLS Super Draft is next week where FCD holds the #17 pick in the opening round.
