FC Dallas will open the 2009 MLS season with a home game against the Chicago Fire on Saturday March 21st at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.  The game will open the 2009 battle for the Brimstone Cup which FC Dallas has won for 7 straight seasons.  It will also be the first full season at the FC Dallas helm for SMU legend Schellas Hyndman.

It could be a different looking squad as well.  Kenny Cooper looks to be heading overseas.  Possibly to the German Bundesliga.  Veteran centerback Duilio Davina will not return also as he and the club mutually agreed to part ways.  Davina was expected to anchor a strong backline last year, but injuries hindered his impact.

Each MLS squad will play a 30 game regular season. Of the 15 teams that will compete in 2009, seven will be in the Eastern Conference and eight will be in the Western Conference, where Seattle Sounders FC is the newest addition. Each team will play every other MLS team home and away, for a base schedule of 28 matches. Two additional games against intraconference rivals will complete each team’s 30 game schedule. The regular season ends on October 25.
