FC Dallas slips to defeat in Panama

Well I guess this is what you might expect in the first competitive match of the year in a hostile environment.  FC Dallas dropped a 1-0 decision to CONCACAF Champions League opponent Tauro FC of Panama at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City. Coming home behind 1-0 in the home and away series, FCD will look to flip the script Tauro FC next Wednesday at Toyota Stadium.

The American side took time to settle and there was on the front foot creating several first half chances.  Young right back Reggie Cannon created a huge chance in the 22nd minute as he blasted down the wing.  Cannon played a low cross for Max Urruti at the back post, but defender Gustavo Charra deflected the pass. The loose ball caromed off the back post and Barrios had a bite at finishing off the play at the back post, but his attempt skipped wide.

From there the Panama goalkeeper stood on his head and made some wonderful saves.  Approaching halftime, Santiago Mosquera brought down a lobbed pass at the top left corner of the area.  The new signing tried to curl a shot over the Tauro FC goalkeeper but the 37 yr old jumped to his left to deflect the shot over the bar with his right hand. Two minutes later, Barrios stretched the defense before dropping a pass back to Diaz at the top of the area. Diaz faked a shot before finding Urruti at the back post but the striker could not beat McFarland, who made an excellent, diving save to his right side.

After the half FC Dallas were punished for the missed chances.  A near post corner kick was flicked on by Edwin Aguilar.  Dallas keeper Jesse Gonzalez went down to collect the ball but completely spilled it allowing Jose Tamburelli to easily tap home.  Not very good set piece defense and even worse goalkeeping. Just like that Tauro FC had the lead against the run of play.  From there Tauro absorbed the FC Dallas pressure as the visitors pushed for the equalizer, but FCD were not sharp enough to break down the resolute defending.

Head Coach Oscar Pareja gave his thoughts afterwards "I think the series since there is a return leg, is still an open competition. I think it puts us on our toes knowing that the series is difficult as well as the opponent. In the moment that we are in we need to come back strong and go back to Dallas and get the result we need. In a way, like we planned. Today things didn’t go our way but in a week we will have another chance at home."
