FC Dallas crushes Chicago 3-0

Sometimes a score can be deceiving.  Not tonight though.  FC Dallas were thoroughly deserving of their 3-0 whitewashing of a poor Chicago Fire squad at Pizza Hut Park.  Chicago were playing their third game of the week and it showed.  They tired significantly as the match went on and FC Dallas were totally in control after the opening goal.

The win clinched a playoff spot for FC Dallas, but they have bigger goals in their sights.  The three points moved FCD to within two points of the top spot in MLS.  FCD has 49 points, Real Salt Lake 50 and the LA Galaxy 51.  The final couple of weeks should be quite interesting.

Milton Rodriguez opened the scoring for Dallas as he got on the end of a long free kick from Dario Sala ripping home a left footed shot.  The score went 1-0 to the break.  The second half was almost completely one way traffic as Chicago looked like they were just waiting for the flight home.

Marvin Chavez made it 2-0 only minutes into the second half and then Jeff Cunningham scored a historic goal in the 68th minute.  He put home a penalty kick after he was fouled in the box.  The goal was his 132nd career goal, tying him with Jaime Moreno for the all-time MLS scoring mark.
