FC Dallas is preparing for life after Kevin Hartmann as they acquired goalkeeper Chris Seitz from Seattle Sounders FC in exchange for a 2012 fourth round SuperDraft selection.   Seattle selected Seitz ninth overall in the second stage of the MLS Re-Entry Process Wednesday afternoon. Seitz spent the 2010 season with the expansion Philadelphia Union, starting 22 games and posting a 1.80 goals against average. The 23-year-old California native went 5-12-6 between the posts.

Real Salt Lake drafted Seitz third overall in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, but the young keeper was never able to wrest the starting job from Nick Rimando. During his three seasons with RSL, Seitz made seven starts and recorded a 1.86 goals against average to go with a 1-4-2 record.

Seitz helped the US U23 Men’s National Team qualify for the 2008 Olympics and served as the squad’s back-up to Brad Guzan for the Summer Games in Beijing that August. Last November Real Salt Lake traded the young prospect to Philadelphia for allocation money.

FC Dallas also allowed Jeff Cunningham to be selected in the Stage 2 draft of the Re-Entry Proces by Columbus.  Cunningham, who began his career with the Crew when they selected him with the ninth pick in the 1998 MLS College Draft, will now have to agree to contract terms before the selection is finalized.
