The Cotton Bowl will once again host bigtime soccer as on September 30th a doubleheader will be played. FC Dallas will face the New England Revolution first followed by an enticing matchup of Mexico and Columbia. These matches will be the first high profile soccer events to be played at the Cotton Bowl in a number of years. July's CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals were both played at Cowboys Stadium in neighboring Arlington and the semifinal match between Mexico and Haiti drew an estimated 82,000 fans. Dallas mayor Tom Leppert said they are shooting for a sellout crowd of a whopping 86,000 at the Cotton Bowl. With the match being just 10 days away from both Mexico and Columbia's next World Cup qualifiers, fans can expect Mexico to field a quality side somewhat better than the team that won the Gold Cup in July. Both teams will play again on Oct. 10, with Colombia facing Chile and Mexico facing off against El Salvador. The FC Dallas game could be a huge one as well as they make a late push for a MLS playoff spot. If the team can put together a good run through September there could be a make or break match before the big international match to follow.
