In Friday's 3:00 match at the Kyle Fritz Memorial Cup we were treated to Keller Fossil Ridge against Dallas Molina.  Fossil arrived with a record of 1-1-2 following a 1-1 draw with Grand Prairie on Thursday in Group D play. They'd be needing a win to set up a Saturday showdown with Arlington for the group title and potentially a place in the title match. Dallas Molina were coming in off a 3-0 loss to group leaders Arlington.

It didn't take long for Fossil Ridge to jump in front as a Lalo Mercado corner kick was headed home by senior Matthew Nuss.  Dallas Molina would tie the game up soon after though as some sloppy play in the back left the Molina forward in on goal where he was dragged down for a penalty. The spotkick was easily tucked home and we were all square after 15 minutes of play.

The final minutes of the opening would decide the match as Keller Fossil Ridge scored three times with Lalo Mercado playing a part in all three.  The first goal came when Lalo cut inside from the right wing and expertly curled home a wicked shot from 25 yards out.

Only two minutes later Lalo ripped another left footed strike off the crossbar where the rebound fell to Shaun Garcia who fired home from the six.  Then in the final minute of the half Lalo curled in a free kick from outside of the area to make it 4-1 at the break. Two goals and two assists in the half from the red hot Lalo Mercado.

The second half was uneventful as a north wind helped Molina keep Keller Fossil Ridge off the scoreboard and leave the final score 4-1.  Arlington and Keller Fossil Ridge will play Saturday morning for the top spot in Group D.  The winner will be guaranteed a spot in at least the consolation final and potentially the title match.  Hebron and Abilene hold the inside path to the championship as they are the only two squads to have two wins so far in the tournament.
