The second week of the high school soccer always offers a treat to soccer fans as it is time for The Kyle Fritz Memorial Cup  hosted by Keller Central.  This year a whopping twenty high school varsity soccer teams are vying for the title.

On Friday afternoon the hosts Keller Central were facing off against Frisco Wakeland.  CFC opened Group A play Thursday with a convincing 4-1 win over Arlington Bowie and came into Friday's match with a record of three wins and a loss on the young season. Frisco Wakeland took the field needing a victory to stay in the hunt to win the group as they lost 2-1 Thursday to Mesquite.

It was wet with a definite chill in the air and the conditions would play a part as Wakeland blew a golden early opportunity early on.  A nice low cross from the right side fell perfectly for a Frisco player in the box who slipped as he shot from the six. Should have been an easy finish, but the slip on the wet turf left him to poop it over the crossbar. The Frisco side was definitely on the front foot as they earned a dangerous free kick soon after. Once again CFC dodged a bullet as the shot whizzed low and wide of the right post.

They would not be so lucky in the 12th minute as Frisco Wakeland took a deserved lead. A low cross found Cody Sedatole on the back post for an east tap in.  The visitors would stay on the front foot and in the 25th minute they would double their lead. A long free kick from midfield was headed home by Matt Ribble.

Just before the half Keller Central nearly scored on their first real attack of the game. Abe DeAnda sent a great low cross for Luke Sommers who hit a first time strike. The Wolverines keeper made the nice save to preserve the two goal lead to the break.

CFC opened the second half on the front foot with Calum Sutherland firing just high after the restart.  Central kept pushing to get into the match as Sutherland saw two more good shots saved.

Frisco Wakeland should have put the game away in the 55th minute but their shot from close range hit side netting. Only minutes later Central set up for a big finish as Trenton Magryta poked home a ball from a scramble in front.  Could CFC finish the comeback?

It was not to be though as Frisco Wakeland expertly saw out the final minutes of the match to claim the 2-1 victory.  With the Arlington Bowie win over Mesquite Group A is wide open as all four teams will be playing for a shot at the group title on Saturday.
